For several years, the film industry has been responsible for showing the world how certain sectors, which historically hadn't received much attention, look, work, and think. Sectors like advertising, medicine, and the currently popular technology sector, which I'm here to talk about.
In this sector, they have shown us that there was a group of people who used to sit behind the ugliest, messiest, and most hidden desks in organizations, writing indecipherable code to save humanity. And mind you, everything was done at the speed of a bomb countdown. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Now they are showing us that no, it wasn't like that. Nowadays we spend our time sliding down slides and playing ping pong in cool offices, and that's our appeal. But no, that's not true either. It's important to clarify that while we are indeed a creative industry, creativity also takes place individually. Let me explain: for me, creating means taking the time to think about a pain point that the industry needs to address, reading about the topic calmly, and concluding with calls to action (I must confess that this has been a challenge, and I'll discuss it later). For "Pepito," creating might mean resting until they reach that enlightened point that allows them to find a solution, and for "Sultanito," it might be the consequence of resting the mind by playing. Who is right? Honestly, everyone is. What's wrong is to believe that just because we belong to the same industry, we conceive things in the same way, and that's not the case.
We are an industry with different personalities, different approaches, and different specialties that develop different ways to create, and that's where our magic lies. When we allow those who work in this industry to be free, that's when we find balance in our teams. This understanding has gradually evolved, which is why you can see that our offices can be different, there are no dress codes, and our focus is always on the value a person can bring, rather than what they want to show the world.
I
am here to tell the world who we are and, above all, what we are NOT in
the technology industry. We grew up without a voice due to an imposed
personality given to us by social construction. Now it's important to step out and explain to the world who we truly are...
The truth behind the tech industry
